Periods can be hellish due to the pain, cramps & stress they bring. Keeping in mind that not everyone feels the same intensity of pain & bears them for the same amount of time, periods can be nightmares for anyone & everyone.

Cramps, along with pain, can lead to fatigue and make even the day-to-day activities excessively painful. Although there are medications available on the market for relieving period pain, making changes in your diet can be one of the most impactful ways to make your periods somewhat painless.

So what foods can relieve period pains?

Having a lighter stomach instead of stuffing yourself with junk foods, is a great way to tackle the period pain. Light foods and mainly vegetables, nuts, seeds & fruits are best to reduce inflammation & relieve cramps.

To help you get started with the right foods, we have compiled a list of pain-relieving foods here:

Leafy greens:

Menstruating can take a severe toll on your health, both physically & mentally, if you aren’t consuming the right foods. The loss of blood also means that a lot of iron content from your body is also being reduced which can end up making you feel sluggish.

Although during periods your cravings may make you crave junk food like a burger, & a pizza, consuming healthier foods can end up being much better than the instant joy of instant foods. Leafy greens are abundant in vitamins and act as a rich source of iron. In case you want to switch the leafy greens, just switch it with some boiled broccoli and there you go, a crunchy treat rich in nutrition.

Friendly fruits:

It is common knowledge that fruits are full to the brim with essential vitamins & nutrients. Take bananas for example! They are great sources of vitamin B6 as well as potassium, which can help relieve cramps & bloating.

Since the summer is upon us, consuming bananas in the form of smoothies is a great way to get all of its nutritional goodness. With the smoothie, you can also dump in some pineapple because the bromelain present in it reduces inflammation effectively.

Kale:

Kale is one of the best foods you can include in your diet to relieve cramps. It contains calcium & magnesium in abundance. The calcium content in kale reduces muscle spasms and contractions.

Kale is versatile in use and can be consumed either boiled or in a smoothie. It strengthens your immune system & relieves cramps. The nutrients have a positive impact on nerves & hormones. This not only relieves the pain but also improves your mood & health.
