CELEBRATING OUR FOOD PROVIDERS: NATIONAL FARMERS DAY
“It is only the farmer who faithfully plants seeds in the Spring, who reaps a harvest in the Autumn.”
- B. C. Forbes
There’s no lie in the fact that farmers are the founders of human civilization. They are working day & night to provide for us throughout the year. We are dependent on them for our meals & they bear this responsibility with all their might.
We are a part of agrarian society, meaning a big chunk of our population is in the agricultural sector. The farmers make up to 60% of the total population of India. Their contribution in the total GDP stands at a whopping 18%.
Why Farmer’s Day?
Today we celebrate our farmers & food providers on the birth anniversary of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Chaudhary Charan Singh. Due to his farmer’s friendly policies & inclination towards welfare of farmers, we commemorate him today by celebrating the farmers.
This approach of his has inspired millions out there to do better for the farmers & bring them to the forefront. In a similar stance, Kiwi Kisan Window, a Dehradun based Health & Wellness Start Up is doing their best for farmers all around India.
Inspiration behind Kiwi Kisan Window:
Kiwi Kisan Window was co-founded by Nupur Agarwal & Abhinav Ahluwalia. Kiwi deals in organic & health conscious food products. They work with the farmers at grass root level & encourage them to engage in organic farming by providing them the technical know-how to do the same.
After they are done growing the crops, Kiwi procures these organic products from them & ensure the safe reach of these products to the consumers.
They adopted a village by the name of Tauli in Jaunsari to create Evolve, a sustainable ecosystem that benefits Rural India by selling plantable stationery procured from Indian farms. While managing Evolve, they came across the extreme conditions of the farmers from that area.
Being engaged with the rural establishments made them realize what a huge gap has been created in the rural & urban life & the deteriorating impact it had on the rural side of the coin. With a firm decision to change this picture for the best, they came up with Kiwi Kisan Window in 2017. They established Kiwi specially to provide a direct window between the farmers & the end consumers & an opportunity for fair trade.
